Gary S. Barach is the founder and Managing Member of Barach Consulting Group, LLC. He has been a dedicated professional in the field of forensic economics for over 40 years. Mr. Barach has been retained in thousands of cases to assess economic damages and offer testimony in federal, state, and municipal courts throughout the United States.
Mr. Barach’s experience extends to diversified industries and a myriad of situations having unique circumstances. He customarily assesses economic damages in matters involving fraud, bankruptcy, contract disputes, product and design defects, product recall, theft of assets and intellectual property, catastrophic losses, personal injury, discrimination, and medical malpractice.
A few notable situations in Mr. Barach’s portfolio include determining economic damages to businesses resulting from the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, assessing the loss of global profits and diminution in brand value from the theft of a $100 million unique jewelry collection in Paris, France; valuing the inventory and diminished profits arising from the national recall of pet food due to contaminated wheat gluten imported from China, and establishing the impact to millions of plaintiffs in a class action who were derived of tax refunds.
Mr. Barach is professionally credentialed as a Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”), Certified Fraud Examiner “(CFE”), Certified Valuation Analyst (“CVA”), Cybersecurity Advisory Consultant, and is Certified in Financial Forensics (“CFF”). As a CPA, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“AICPA”) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (“PICPA”). These professional organizations develop requirements for certification and licensing to assure the highest possible level of professional standards and ethics are met. Mr. Barach earned the CFF designation from the AICPA in recognition of specialized forensic accounting and economic skills that are applied in a variety of service areas, including: bankruptcy and insolvency; computer forensics; economic damages; family law; fraud; and business valuations.
Mr. Barach’s CFE credential acknowledges meeting standards and ethics established by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (“ACFE”), the preeminent global organization for professionals who are involved in identifying perpetrators of fraud and fraud risk. As a Certified Fraud Examiner, Mr. Barach is a member of a select group having an expertise in fraud prevention, detection, and deterrence based on proven experience and knowledge of criminology and ethics, identifying fraudulent financial transactions, fraud investigation, and the legal elements of fraud.
The distinction of CVA validates Mr. Barach as business valuation expert complying with standards and ethics established by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (“NACVA”). NACVA is the nation’s leader in setting standards for valuation professionals and interphases with organizations such as the Appraisal Issues Task Force, North American Business Valuation Standards Council, IRS Valuation Policy Council, and the USPAP Working Group.
In addition to the professional credentials cited above, Mr. Barach is an active member of the National Association of Forensic Economists (“NAFE”), the Loss Executives Association (“LEA”), and the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (“CLM”).
Throughout his career, Mr. Barach has been a speaker at national conventions and conducted seminars to law firms, governmental agencies, and businesses on topics pertaining to the quantification of economic damages in litigation. He has been published in periodicals that include “Risk Management Magazine” and “Best’s Review Magazine.”
In addition to a successful professional career, Mr. Barach has been active in charities and his community, serving on the Board of Directors of numerous Philadelphia-based charities and being elected a Supervisor for his township in Chester County.
Mr. Barach was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.
